by Rex Magnum

If you're ready to buy a motorcycle helmet, you have probably just recently bought yourself an awesome new motorcycle. But don't forget, in your excitement, how important it is to have a helmet that is safe, looks great, and is cost effective.

Safety is the number one concern of many motorcycle riders. Even when you are a very safe driver, the roads can be dangerous, and it's important to protect yourself. Any helmet will protect your head from injury, but is the best motorcycle helmet?

Full face helmets are a great for those who are very safety conscious. They cover your face to protect it from road kick up. And they provide shielding for your chin and surrounding your head.

Full face helmets are not right for everyone. If you like feeling the wind in your face, and are staying at slower speeds, an open face helmet might be right for you. It will also protect the back and sides of your head.

There are many different reasons to buy a helmet, but you can't forget style. Finding the best motorcycle helmet to match your personality is easy. There are so many different graphics, colors, and finishes to decide on.

When you're finding the right helmet for you, the finishes are key. If you're trying not to be too flashy, a matte finish is best. If you want to stand out in a crowd, try a metallic finish. And there are many awesome graphic print helmets.

Of course, in addition to safety and flair, cost is always a concern. A lot of your price depends on what special features you're looking for. A helmet can range from less than a hundred dollars to several hundred, depending on these extras.

It is fun to find the best motorcycle helmet for you. Once you know what type of features you are looking for, from safety to price, you can start your online research with a leg up on finding the best motorcycle helmet.

When looking for a Great Looking and Fun To Wear motorcycle helmet it is important to have a good selection to choose from. To find the best helmets on the internet like the Joe Rocket 101 Deviant then visit SplatHat.com first.

Boat Dealer - The Essentials Of Seattle Washington Boat Dealer!

Seattle is one place that offers people the best boating action on the globe, and if you are lucky enough to be living in the area you will see the best of boats as well. Seattle has no dearth of good boat dealers who are very resourceful in getting you what ever type of boat you want, if they do not have one they will be more than eager to get it for you. Almost every resident of Seattle has a boat of his or her own.

At least that is the rumor doing the rounds. The truth is that every family probably has a boast to boast of, and a good one too, because Seattle is known for its boats, so it is only logical that the residents there will have the best boats and the knowledge to go with it. So, if you want to find a good boat to own the best place to get your information will be one of the residents in Seattle who could probably direct you to a Seattle Washington boat dealer.

It is no big deal that some Seattle Washington boat dealers only sell a certain type of boat that is they specialize in a certain kind of boat. This is nothing to worry about though because if you come up against such a Seattle Washington boat dealer he will be only too glad to direct you to a dealer for the kind of boat you are looking for.

But if you want to do your own home work you can start eliminating the boat dealers yourself and do not waster time trying to get the boat of your choice from a dealer who does not deal with your kind of boat. For instance you do not want to approach a dealer who sells fishing boats for a pontoon party boat.

It is also important that you know the particular brand of boat you want to own. There are many manufacturers of boats in Seattle and homing in on a dealer that sells the brand that you are looking for can be a bit of a task. The best place is to start with the web site of the manufacturer. The site will list all their dealers for the type of bat you are looking for and you are sure to find a dealer for the brand you are searching the country for in Seattle, Washington.

Then comes the pricing of the boat, there is nothing to fear as the selling policy of the boat manufacturers is quite transparent. The boat dealer will be only too glad to offer you the best price for the boat because of the competition. A dealer knows that a customer will come to the shot after surveying the market and then the prices are also on the net so there is no way you cant get a good deal from a Seattle Washington boat dealer.

Either option you can not go far wrong with the enjoyment you get from a boat where ever you purchase it from, just be sure to buy th every best you can afford, then sit back and enjoy sailing.

World's Top 10 Silly Lorry Stories!

by Lyall Cresswell

Whether it's down to lack of sleep, a comical attitude or a desire for distractions on a long journey, for some reason lorries and lorry drivers have been the focus of many of the craziest news stories over the last few years. Here is a countdown of the top 10!

# 10 Fast food attack on 'go slow' doctor (Czech Republic)

An Austrian doctor lodged a complaint after a lorry driver threw a cheeseburger at him for driving too slowly. But police told Hannes Kohl, from Vienna, that burger throwing was not an offence. He was hit on the head by the cheeseburger thrown by an overtaking lorry driver through his open car window. Dr Kohl, who was on his way to a medical congress in the Czech Republic, said: 'I was going slowly but that was no excuse for this outrageous attack.'

# 9 Lorry driver's sausage mistake (Germany)

A German lorry driver set fire to his cab after deciding to cook himself some sausages while driving. Walter Reckling, 46, was cooking two sausages while travelling in Saxony, Germany, when the cooker toppled over. It set fire to the seat, which in turn set fire to the cab of the haulage vehicle. Reckling was treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital, where he was also found to have been three times over the legal alcohol limit.

# 8 Smashing grand piano (UK)

A crew of delivery men were red-faced after dropping a £45,000 grand piano off a lorry whilst being filmed. Music lovers spent two years raising cash for the Bösendorfer. Proud organiser Penny Adie, 54, was ready with her camera as specialist removers arrived at an arts centre in Devon. But she watched in horror as it fell 14ft off the tail-lift.
Penny said: 'We are numb.' Her husband John, 61, added: 'We'll have to start fund-raising again.' The removal firm refused to comment.

# 7 Dodgy lorry accessories (US)

A controversial Virginia lawmaker is trying to introduce new legislation to ban rubber testicles from being fitted to the back of trucks. Truck drivers who sport fake testicles on the back of their haulage vehicles would risk a $250 fine under his proposal. Lionel Spruill, known for his failed attempt in 2005 to ban baggy pants, said he became concerned when he learned that the truck accessories had got larger as their popularity had increased amongst truck drivers. 'How big are they going to go?' he said. 'When will it stop?'

# 6 End of the road for unfortunate camel (Sweden)

Police in Sweden believe a dead camel found on a motorway probably fell off the back of a lorry. Drivers called police after seeing the body on the motorway in southern Sweden and initially police presumed it was a moose that had been hit by a car. Officers were surprised to discover the animal was a camel and believe it must have fallen off the back of a lorry and died as it hit the ground. A police spokesman said: 'We often come across moose bodies but a camel is a first.'

# 5 Unconventional truck driver (US)

A 50-year-old Californian man pulled a truck with his penis for a British film crew. Martial arts grandmaster Tu Jin-Sheng attached himself to the haulage vehicle and pulled it several yards across a car park in Fremont. Jin-Sheng, originally from Taiwan, is the grandmaster of Iron Crotch, a branch of Qigong said to have 60,000 followers worldwide. Its practitioners are known to lift hundreds of pounds with their genitals to increase energy and sexual performance.

# 4 Excellent mobile phone excuse (Germany)

A German lorry driver escaped a rap for driving while using a mobile phone - after claiming he was using it as an ear warmer. Klein, 43, told the court: 'I had an earache and it was being made worse because the cab had not heated up yet. So I grabbed the phone that had been on charge and put it to my ear, and that was when I was stopped by police.' The court accepted his claim after he produced an itemised telephone bill proving he had not been using the phone at the time he was stopped.

# 3 Lorry driver shunts man in a Smart car down the motorway (Germany)

A lorry driver shunted a tiny Smart car two miles down a busy German motorway because he didn't know it was wedged to his lorry. The lorry driver, 53, pushed the tiny car driven by Andreas Bolga, 48, along the busy road and said 'I couldn't believe it when I got out of the lorry and saw there was a car stuck on the front of it,' he said. Mr Bolga said: 'I tried to drive away but couldn't. I looked up through my sun roof and could see the lorry driver, but he didn't notice me.'

# 2 Truck driver shunts man in a wheelchair down the motorway (US)

A disabled man was taken for a 50mph ride along a US highway after his wheelchair got jammed in the grille of a truck. The back of the 21-year-old man's wheelchair was scooped up as he passed in front of a truck leaving a petrol station, Michigan State Police said. After four miles, the truck driver pulled over at a truck stop where police caught up and told him about the man on his front end. The man was unhurt - but still attached to the front of the truck. Police said he told them 'it was quite a ride', and complained only that he had spilled his soda.

# 1 Prisoner postage (Austria)

A plucky prisoner wrapped himself in a large parcel and posted himself to freedom from a jail on a lorry. Bosnian Muradif Hasanbegovic, 36, was serving a seven-year sentence for robbery in the Karlau prison near Graz, Austria. He packed himself up in a parcel and other convicts loaded him onto a lorry. Once clear of the prison he broke out of the parcel, jumped off the back of the lorry and fled. The lorry driver told police: 'I noticed the tarpaulin had a hole in it just as the prison called me and asked 'Have you noticed anything funny? We are kind of missing a prisoner'. Hasanbegovic has not been seen since.

RV Camping Is Easier And More Convenient

Recreational Vehicle (RV) Camping is like car camping except in most RV's you can sleep. RV camping is a very popular kind of camping probably because you can bring along some of the bigger luxury items like comfortable chairs and bicycles. And some of the fancier RV's have luxuries as you will never find in a tent, like a bathroom, bedroom, living room and kitchen. You can leaf your supplies, kitchen tools, towels and other personal stuff in the RV, you don't have to pack everything when you decide to mover to another campsite.

RV camping is a great way for families to go camping without all of the putting up tents and sleeping on the ground kind of stuff. It is comfortable for parents with small children and for their grandparents and everyone in between. It is also an enjoyable way of camping for people who have disabilities, they will be able to keep on camping without all of the restrictions tent camping can invoke, like the physical burden of putting up the tent.

One of the main advantages of RV camping is that families can use their RV for other purposes when they aren't being used for camping. You can use your RV as a guest room on your property or as a spare room for one of your older children, you can stay in your RV when your house is being painted, or when you have to stay with family who do not have a guest room. An RV gives you the freedom to stay in your own home on wheels and park any where you want.

An RV is so practical, you can pack up your RV with all of your supplies and travel from place to place. There are several types of RV's. The more expensive RV's (motor homes) are motorized and you can drive them from camp to camp. Other RV's can be towed behind the car or truck. This is very convenient because you can park the unit and then leave it, and use the truck to go shopping and explore. Some RV models fold open to create a tent. All different types come in many forms, sizes and additions.

RV camping has many advantages, for instance it is much cheaper than staying in hotels. You can take all your supplies and some luxury with you, in fact you can take your whole campsite with you from place to place. And you don't have to put up tents and make a kitchen out of nothing and sleep on the ground. There are many RV parks and they are nice places to rest and enjoy yourself. RV camping is much easier than camping with a tent and backpack. And you can enjoy it with the whole family or with your friends. The freedom that comes with having an RV is wonderful, there are many ways you can use your house on wheels. RV camping is a real family activity and when you try it ones, you wish you would have done it years ago.

Putting Into Practice The Concept Of Motorcycle Storage

by Craig Thornburrow

Motorcycle storage is an important concept for many motorcycle riders, especially those who live in colder climates and only ride their bikes during the warmer months. This type of storage will keep your motorcycle in tiptop shape and ensure that it is ready to ride when the weather warms up again. There are a few tips which all motorcycle owners should consider as it relates to storing motorcycles.

Find Good Storage for a Reasonable Price

For many motorcycle owners storing their bike in their own garage during the colder months is an option for them and the best possible one as it doesn't cost any money to do so. If you don't own a garage and you want to store it inside during the winter the next step is to find a place to do so. Depending on where you live you may know of an auto storage facility or garage in your area which stores bikes for a period of time. This is a good option as long as it is a secure facility and the price is right.

Work on the Motorcycle Prior to Storage

Depending if you are storing your bike inside or outside, there are a few things you may need to do in order to prepare the motorcycle for storage. Items such as making sure your engine oil is clean, checking the fuel delivery systems and protecting the various components of the motorcycle from rusting if need be are all important things to consider doing. The level of winterizing will depend on the storage area, climate in which you live and desire of the motorcycle owner to do so. More information on this can be gained from your mechanic or motorcycle texts.

Wash, Wax and Polish

It is also a good idea to give your motorcycle one last thorough cleaning prior to storing it for the wintertime. In addition to a good wash you should also wax the paint and polish the chrome fixtures on the motorcycle. This will ensure that all the dirt is off of the bike prior to putting it into storage for a few months.

Change the Necessary Fluids

You should also consider changing various fluids in the motorcycle before storing it. Some of the fluids which will need to be checked and changed may include brake fluid, hydraulic clutch fluid and coolant. This will help to prevent any deposits from forming while it is in motorcycle storage.

Take It Out For One Last Ride

Last but certainly not least, you should hop on your motorcycle for one last ride. Find one of the last warm days and spend a couple of hours out on the open road. Since it will be a while before you get a chance to do so again, taking the bike out for a spin before putting it into motorcycle storage will help to hold you over until the warm weather months arrive again.

Turbo Charge Your BMW

by Dennis D James

Obtaining the most out of your engine has been the goal for many people over the years. There are several types of engines: normal aspirated engines and engines that make use of turbo and compressors to obtain more power from the same cylindrical capacity.

Modern car engines are more efficient and powerful than the engines produced twenty years ago, but there is still place for improvement. For example, if you have a normal aspirated car, you can add a turbo-compressor to increase the amount of horse power the engine develops. But before you rush out to the first car parts and buy a turbo charger for your car, there are things to consider.

The most important thing you must take into consideration when thinking of adding a turbo to your car is to think is the engine's parts will be able to sustain the extra power from the turbo.

Adding a turbo requires quite a few engine modifications, and the outcome will be more power from your initial power, but will also bring higher temperatures inside the engine and the very high revs the turbine will function.

The German BMW's are already known for their superior handling, reliability and power, but you squeeze a few more horsepower from your BMW engine by adding a turbo charger.

Compared to other methods of obtaining more power from your engine, superchargers offer less costly and an easier to install kit (these kits make 6-8 lbs of boost and the average home mechanic can safely install a quality application in 6 hours). Superchargers will typically make an impressive horse power increase, but many suppliers do not make a tremendous amount of low RPM torque, so if you only drive your car to work across the city, a turbo will not bring you significant advantages.

There are many components that a turbo charging set contains, as it is made up of thing like the intercooler, the bypass valve, the blow off valve, a waste gate, exhaust manifold, larger injectors and many more.

The typical home mechanic will probably be unable to complete this installation and that is why you should address a large car repair or tuning shop to complete the operation. Even for an experienced mechanic, mounting a turbo kit will take several days of work.

However, due to the significant increase in power a turbo kit brings your car, the wait is worth it. But when considering turboing your BMW, you should also consider improving your car's brakes, as a 500 horse power BMW will require a lot of braking force to bring it to a stop from the astonishing speeds it can achieve. So the braking system should also be improves when mounting the kit (elements such as larger diameter rotors, multi piston calipers, sport brake pads, stainless steel brake lines and performance brake fluid should be on your shopping list).

You should also pay special attention to the BMW's drive train when thinking of turboing your BMW. The initial car was developed to handle only a certain amount of power and any increase in this amount of power can affect your car's stability and ability in taking corners if you not strengthen up essential parts in the BMW's drive train (such as the clutch).

Also the car's cooling system should be upgraded as well when turboing your BMW, as power generates heat and the initial radiator had been developed to eliminate just a certain amount of engine heat.

So you may think that adding a turbo kit to your BMW is an easy operations, but the truth is that if you want to have a professional operation done, there are other elements beside the engine itself that have to be modified.

Making yourself heard from a motorbike

by Keith Barrett

We may think about motorcycle owners as being something of an individual breed, but sometimes riders like to communicate with others while riding their bikes. Bluetooth technology is helping to facilitate such forms of communications.

The big problems with having a conversation on the back of a motorcycle is caused by the noise that the rider is surrounded by.

The most obvious source of noise usually comes from the engine. Being located closer to the engine than car drivers, motorcycle riders often enjoy the thrill of being close to the roar of an engine.

Another source of noise will come from the speed that these machines are travelling at, plus disturbance caused by weather conditions. The latter are particularly obvious in the UK of course!

Getting around the problem that this loud environment causes has not seemed easy. The solution has come from a source that many might not think would be naturally associated with bikes and bikers.

That solution is relying on something that is known as bluetooth technology. This is technology that was originally developed in order to allow hardware devices to communicate with each other.

You may be asking why that was so special. The answer is that this technology facilitates such communication without needing cables or wires. It is what is known to many as wireless communications.

Operating over short distances, the technology has largely been used by computers and mobile phones. So how does this relate to motorbikes?

The answer is that people on the back of a bike can now wear special headsets that have integrated bluetooth technology. This technology enables a rider and passenger, for instance, to hold a conversation despite the surrounding engine and road noise.

A relatively simple solution but one that would not have been possible but for the development of bluetooth technology and applications.

If you're interested in purchasing bluetooth motorcycle helmets then you can find out more information, including more articles by Keith Barrett. This article may be published on any website but this resource box must be included in full. The author retains all copyright.

History of The Chevy Chevelle

by Edward Caffray

The Chevrolet Chevelle is a mid-sized car from Chevy, first rolling off the assembly line in 1964. It was manufactured from 1964 through 1977 and was one of General Motors most triumphant cars. Chevelle models ranged from easy on the pocket family cars to convertibles and powerful coupes. The Malibu was at first the top trim level of the Chevelle line, and it replaced the Chevelle name entirely after 1977. The Chevelle chassis, based on the reengineered GM A platform, provided the platform for the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, a very successful model itself.

The Chevelle was anticipated to compete with the equally sized Ford Fairlane, and to return to the Chevrolet lineup a model comparable in size and concept to the popular 1955-57 models. Early drawing photos show what would eventually be the Chevelle wearing Nova nameplates, the name that was used for the top trim level in the smaller Chevy II series. From 1964-69, the Chevelle was the groundwork for the similar Beaumont, a re-trimmed model sold only in Canada by Pontiac dealers.

A two-door station wagon was available in 1964 and 1965 in the bottom-line Chevelle 300 series. Four-door hardtops, dubbed Sport Sedans, were available from 1966 through 1972. Two-door hardtops and convertibles were produced from 1964 to 1972, while four-door sedans and four-door wagons were offered throughout the entire run. In line with other Chevrolet series, the two-door hardtops were called Sport Coupes. An assortment of models of wagons was sold with exclusive nameplates: Nomad (1968-1972), Nomad Custom (1968), Greenbrier (1969-1972), Concours (1967-1972), and Concours Estate (1968-1972).

The El Camino, a utility pickup, was part of the Chevy lineup and, depending on the year, was available in the 300/300 Deluxe trim level, Malibu trim level and the one-year only SS396. The El Camino outlived its passenger car counterpart until its end in 1987.

The Chevelle underwent a redesign for the 1973 model year. The so-called "colonnade hardtop" styling featured frameless door glass and fixed "B" pillars. Rear windows on coupes no longer could be opened, no doubt encouragement from GM to purchase the increasingly popular optional air conditioning. The Front suspension was based on the Camaro and Firebird which greatly improved handling. Engine choices ranged from the 250 I6 to the venerable 454 V8. Hardened engine valve seats and hydraulic camshafts made these engines reliable for many miles, and allowed them to accept the increasingly popular unleaded regular gasoline. Cross flow radiators and coolant reservoirs that prevented air from entering the system prevented overheating. Swivel bucket seats and center console for automatic and manual shift cars were offered in every model as was the instrument gauge cluster. Power front disc and rear drum brakes were standard. Power accessories, air conditioning and AM/FM tape stereo were more prevalent these years and provided a pleasing drive. A power moon roof was an option in 1973 and 1975.

The station wagon, available in 6 or 9 passenger seating, featured a rear hatchback door which allowed for easier entry and loading. The Chevrolet El Camino and GMC Sprint were based on the Chevelle. Yearly design changes to the front and rear mark the aesthetic differences as in preceding years. The 1973 to 1977 Chevelles were top sellers for GM as was the Oldsmobile Cutlass, which used the same A-body platform.

The 1973 model offerings started with the top luxury Laguna series with its distinct urethane nose, followed by Malibu and then deluxe models. A Super Sport SS package was available for Malibu coupes and for the only time, station wagons. The Super Sport SS option included a black front grille, SS emblem on the interior and exterior, body side striping, rally wheels with white letter tires, F41 sport suspension with front and rear sway bars, and a 350 or 454 V8. A 4 speed Muncie transmission was available with 350 or 454 equipped cars on any model.

In 1974 the Laguna S3 coupe replaced the "Super Sport SS" as the sporty performance option on the Chevelle. The nomenclature S3 referred to sport and 3rd generation Chevelle. It sported a special urethane nose, body side striping, Laguna S3 emblem, rally wheels, 4 spoke steering wheel and F41 sport suspension with front and rear sway bars. Radial tires on 15" wheels and radial tuned suspension provided road grip and retractable 3 point seat belts were introduced and still used in new cars today. A 400 engine was new this year. The 454 was the top engine and available with the Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 or Muncie 4 speed transmissions.

With the Laguna nameplate now bearing the sporty model in the Chevelle line, the top-line series for 1974 became the Malibu Classic, offered in sedan, coupe and station wagon models. Unlike the '73 Laguna, the Malibu Classic used the same grille work as lesser Chevelle models but added a spring-loaded hood ornament. Inside, Malibu Classic featured luxurious interiors with notchback bench seats (or optional Strato bucket seats) upholstered in cloth or vinyl, carpeted door panels and wood grain instrument panel trim, and vertical opera windows on coupes or exterior wood trim on station wagons. Also for 1974, the base Chevelle Deluxe series was dropped, leaving the plain Malibu as the low-end series.

The 1975 Laguna S-3 debuted as a 1/2 year model in February and sported a new sloped front nose designed for NASCAR. H.E.I. or High Energy Ignition provided spark to the spark plugs with minimal maintenance and increased power. The larger distributor cap also provided better high RPM performance by decreasing the likelihood of the spark conducting to the wrong terminal. The 454 and Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 transmissions was available for the first half of the model year and then the 400 was the top engine choice. In 1976, the Chevelle was available with the new 5.0 liter 305 V8 the 350 and the 400. 1977 offered the Malibu Classic as the top model and the 350 was the top engine. A Chevelle S.E. or special edition was available and provided front and rear spoilers, rally wheels, special graphics and sport suspension. Only 50 or so were built. When GM downsized its intermediate models for 1978, the Chevelle name was dropped and all models took the Chevrolet Malibu name.

The 1973 to 1977 Chevelle was the top car in the NASCAR circuit in the 1970s. The car was so popular and successful on the track that Chevrolet developed a new front nose in 1975 that lead to the aerodynamic cars of today. The car dominated the field so much that NASCAR imposed a carburetor restrictor plate for all Laguna's. Drivers that raced 1973 to 1977 Chevelles include Darrell Waltrip, Junior Johnson, Benny Parsons, Cale Yarborough, Bobby and Donnie Allison, Bobby Isaac, Lennie Pond, A.J. Foyt, Ricky Rudd, Dale Earnhardt and female racer Janet Guthrie.

Owner Operator and Logistics Protection – A Guide to HGV Safety

by Lyall Cresswell

With any job, it's remarkably easy to slip into a routine after you've been doing it for months, years and decades. The trouble is that most jobs aren't as fraught with dangers as working with haulage groupage. And with logistics workers putting in such long hours, the danger of complacency becomes even more real. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to minimise the haulage safety risks every step of the way, from loading-up to delivery – if you make sure this becomes part of your job routine, you are far more likely to avoid joining the statistics as a logistics casualty.

So here are some lorry safety tips for every part of your journey – from loading up to unloading!

Truck Safety at the Depot

- Larger haulage companies should ensure that pedestrians are kept well away from the truck routes on site, to prevent any serious truck safety mishaps.

- Minimising your need for reversing is an important lorry safety tip. Having dedicated areas for reversing where pedestrians are kept away, and with reversing alarms, trained marshals or vehicle CCTV to prevent any casualties from the reduced visibility.

- Even on level surfaces, truck and parking brakes should be used to prevent unexpected movements. Spoken word handbrake warning devices can be installed if this looks like a likely cause of HGV safety slip ups.

Safety on Trucks

According to one source, there were 298 injuries and 1 fatality from falls in the road haulage industry, and roughly two thirds of these were from falling from the freight vehicles themselves. Although much of this is common sense, there are certain HGV safety steps you can take to minimise your risk of a serious fall from the lorry.
- The first step to increasing lorry safety by reducing falls is incredibly obvious – avoid climbing onto your truck's trailer if humanly possible! If you're not at a height, it's harder to take a dangerous tumble! If it is required, ensure there are steps and handholds!

- Ensuring your footwear is as slip resistant as possible will offer good support when having to climb to dangerous heights.

- A haulage worker on top of the vehicle's trailer should never have their back to the edge if they are within a metre – it's all too easy for something to happen and make you lose your footing. For similar reasons, walking backwards on top of a trailer is a seriously bad idea.

- Don't leap from the top of your trailer or cab, even if it does look like a 'safe drop'

- Hand holds on a truck are prone to wear and tear from load bearing – check them regularly to make sure they won't give way at the worst possible time.

Slips and Trips

Slips and trips account for a fair percentage of haulage safety failures. In 2005/6, there were 442 major injuries, and 1507 workers were out of commission for more than 3 days as a result of slipping.

There are many steps that can be taken to reduce the chances of slipping:

- Wear gripped footwear, and take extra care around areas that are likely to be slippery – for example, diesel tanks where spilling is a common event.

- Take special caution when climbing down from the cab to the kerb, as balance is off and visibility is poor

- When loading and unloading objects, try your hardest to avoid carrying the heavier and larger ones over areas likely to be slippery, as this often obscures the carrier's view and makes it difficult for them to catch their fall in the event of a trip.

Lifting and Moving Haulage Safety

279 major injuries and 3653 people required over 3 days off as a result of manual handling in the haulage industry. Here are some tips to ensure you don't face the same kind of agony:

- If it's possible to make loads easier to carry, then it's worth the investment. If a smaller selection of haulage groupage can be carried with handles or hand-holds, then it's worth investing in them, rather than risking your lorry safety.

- Mechanical aids can save time as well as you/your workers health! If its financially viable, consider vehicle mounted hydraulic hoists, pallet trucks, scissor lifts or customised trolleys.

- Roll cages are big contributors to manual handling injuries. Make sure they're sensibly loaded, well secured in the vehicle and that the pavement you're travelling across is even and free from potholes and bumps.

Although many of these HGV safety tips are common sense, it never hurts to restate them, especially as many workers have been dealing with haulage groupage so long that it has become routine. The watch words are care and common sense – keep those two at heart and you should easily be able to avoid injury.

Lyall Cresswell is the Managing Director of the Haulage Exchange. The exchange is for the heavy freight and logistics industry and offers haulage groupage for freight companies and owner operators all over the UK.

Find out more about bluetooth helmets

by Keith Barrett

Bluetooth motorcycle helmets are appearing more frequently in the UK. You may well have noticed them yourself. Have you ever stopped to think about what they do and how they came about?

These devices are essentially about solving a problem that has existed for many years. While many motorbike riders feel that the great appeal in riding is being able to get out and hit the road, some point out that is can be a very individual pursuit.

Although you can ride in convoy, or have a passenger on the back of the bike, communication tends to be limited. One reason why it is so difficult to hold any sort of conversation is because of the noise levels involved.

As you ride your bike, you have the obvious noise from the engine itself. Unlike in a car, you are closer to the engine and hence also close to the source of a loud roar.

To many, this is part of the fun in owning a motorbike. It's also clear that it doesn't much help when it comes to having a conversation.

Then you have to consider the amount of background noise caused by travelling along a road at speed. As you cut through the air, you can hear it rushing by.

If you have the misfortune to be out on a day when it's raining or windy, then you'll also have to deal with the additional problems that such weather conditions cause.

Looking at the situation as a whole, some decided that a solution was required. Bluetooth helmets and headsets have proved to be the key part of that solution.

They allow riders to talk to each other and their passengers, thanks to the fact that bluetooth technology enables wireless communications over small distances.

When used with compatible mobile phones, they can even talk to people all over the world. This can be done safely, in a hands free manner.

Sometimes technology can help us to overcome difficulties - it certainly has done for motorbike owners.

Fabulous Trips on Luxury Ships

by Allweb

With millions of travelers choosing to take their trips on a cruise ship or an ocean liner there is now a growing demand for large, fast and safe cruise ships to cater to these millions of passengers. For the past five years there have been at least nine new cruise ships built every year only in the North American continent. At the moment there are three cruise ship builders that dominate the global market: Aker Yards with two shipyards in Finland and France, the Fincantieri Company in Italy and German company Meyer Werft. Aker Yards is a Finnish ship building giant with two shipyards, one in Finland and one in France. With a fresh and innovative approach to ship building the company had no problems establishing its name firmly on the list of best ship builders around the world.

This company doesn't merely build cruise ships; it creates comfortable and wonderful facilities for the passengers and handles the cargo problem efficiently. The cleverly designed and flawlessly built Aker ships almost sail themselves allowing the passengers as well as the crew to simply enjoy the cruise. Fifteen of the largest cruise ships in the world bear the signature of Aker shipyards. Aker Yards is currently building two huge Genesis class cruise vessels that will be delivered in 2009 and 2010 for Royal Caribbean. The Italian Company Fincantieri has more than two hundred years of tradition and experience behind it. Two centuries and more than seven thousand ships after its creation the Fincantieri Company continues to search for newer and better solutions in the design and construction of their cruise ships.

The creativity and knowledge of the Fincantieri team was rewarded in 1992 and 1993 when Fincantieri cruise ships Destriero and Rex were awarded the Blue Ribbon. With nearly ten thousand employees, two design centers, two production sites, one research centre and shipyards in Ancona, Riva Trigoso, Monfalcone, Sestri Ponente, Marghera, Palermo, Muggiano and Castellammare di Stabia it's no wonder that Fincantieri is one of the most important cruise ship builders around the world. Another huge constructor of cruise ships and cruise liners is the German Company Meyer Werft. Owner of one of the most modern shipyards in the world and employer of almost 3000 people Meyer Werft has built cruise ships like the Norwegian Pearl and the Pride of Hawaii in 2006. In plan for 2008 there are at least two cruise liners for the Disney Cruise Line and the AIDAdiva, a cruise ship with a capacity of two thousand passengers.

Campervan Hire – Have a Unique Vacation

by Elvin

Camping can be a really relaxing activity, especially when you have the desire to let loose your pent up energies and break into a period of unadulterated frolic somewhere close to nature. The conventional concept of camping usually entails the expedition of a group into the woods or close to a lake where they would pitch tents, cook in the open and sleep below the stars. This style has, however give n way to a new stylised version of enjoying all the excitement with a touch of homely comfort in the form of campervan hire.

Campervans are motor vans that have space enough to carry along most of the domestic equipments to offer you the feel of home even when you are camping far away from your haven. The typical set of appliances that can fit in to your campervan include beds, shower zone, television, fridge, cooker, propane gas, cleaning equipments and even lavatories. In other words, you would not miss out on all the amenities that can be found in your homes.

Since some time now, the concept of campervan hire has seen a commendable rise in the UK, as the tourism industry has made it possible for travellers to opt for this holiday idea through a well associated promotional activity. There are several providers of campervans in the UK who have displayed their offers over the Internet to give way to better accessibility and more reach.

As a holiday idea, campervan hire packs in all the ingredients of a unique activity and a delightful sidetrack from the common ideas like mountaineering, beach holidays and adventure sports. Not only can campers enjoy under the bed of stars in a clear sky, they can even avail all the facilities of their homes. What's more, it even offers safety from any unforeseen dangers in the open.

Heat your Honda’s Cabin Up

by Anthony Fontanelle

The autumn and winter seasons often bring cooler air to the environment. While those at home can easily warm up by wearing thick clothes or settling in front of a fireplace, motorists cannot enjoy the same comforts. Fortunately for Honda owners, all Honda vehicles are equipped with heating systems to ward off seasonal chills. A Honda's heating system is composed of heater cores and the Honda Heater Knobs that control the flow of heated air into the cabin.

A car's heater works hand in hand with the cooling system. Your Honda's heater is basically a small radiator inside the dashboard. Hot coolant circulates through the heater core. Honda Heater Knobs are controlling devices for the hot air circulating in the heater. The Honda Heater Knob is a dial attached to the dashboard through a metal stem. Once the Honda Heater Knob is turned, a diverter door opens and a small fan blows the air from the hot heater core and into the cabin. Honda Heater Knobs also control the speed of the fan, regulating the amount of heat moving into your Honda's interior. Through these auto parts, Honda owners are assured of driving comfort and convenience, even in the coldest conditions.

Just like any car part, both the heater core and Honda Heater Knobs are prone to deterioration after a long period of use. The heater core's common problem is leakage, which can easily be detected by a sweet odor in your Honda's cabin or a leak in the passenger floorboard under the carpet. Meanwhile, Honda Heater Knobs can get pulled from their metal stem. This prevents Honda owners from controlling their heater systems. In such cases, a new set of Honda Heater Knobs can be installed. Choices for your replacement Honda Heater Knob run aplenty in our site. Since all our Honda parts come with quality and durability, you can be sure that our Honda Heater Knobs will be worth your money.

For more information about your parts needs like Honda Heater Knobs visit your trusted online source. Anthony Fontanelle is a 35-year-old automotive buff who grew up in the Windy City. He does freelance work for an automotive magazine when he is not busy customizing cars in his shop.

It is unlikely that you would be able to keep yourself away from automobile accidents. However, there is one sure way of getting away from them and that is by looking for the right lawyer to represent you.

Any person can be held liable for automobile accidents. That is why you should see to it that you are giving correct information to your lawyer because you might end up shouldering all the cost of filing a claim.

1. As much as possible, you should keep an attorney who can negotiate with your insurance provider or with the other party's insurer so that you can demand suitable settlement and get the compensation that you truly deserve.

2. Look for a top-ranked Los Angeles car accident lawyer who has an experience with handling this type of case to provide you with quick legal assistance. Do not research by yourself.

3. Search for a lawyer with whom you are comfortable working with. Make sure that they are also capable of communicating and clarifying things with the other party's lawyer. This would ease communication between you, your lawyer, and your insurer.

Diversity in Camping

by Ben Watson

Camping to some is a tent, coleman stove and sleeping bags and to others a motorhome with all the modern amenities of home - even requiring special facilities and hook-ups like cable TV and WiFi connections. Many camping families fall somewhere in between the two. No matter how you like to camp, there are campgrounds that offer what you need and desire. These vary from tiny, remote and even primitive campsites, to moderate sized campgrounds and RV Parks, to large resorts offering everything imaginable.

Campgrounds also vary widely in location and accessibility. This is important because of trip-planning in general, along with handiness to things you want to see and do. Consider what the campground offers as well as what is in the area. And finally, what amenities are offered to accommodate your camping equipment. Campgrounds are as varied as the campers themselves.

It is a good idea to be as careful about your campground choice as you are about your travel destination. What requirements do you have for a campground or RV Park? Do you want to be able to stay at the campground most of the time – are you planning to relax by the pool or enjoy its recreational programs - or are you looking more for a convenient base of operations to launch day-trips, sightseeing, and area attractions? Is the campground geared toward hosting your equipment? Do they have tenting sites, RV hook-ups, level sites are important for motorhomes, can they accommodate your RV's length and width with slideouts – What about Internet and Cable TV.

As you consider your vacation, weekend or travel plans, be sure to utilize the information provided in the many available camping directories. Today copious amounts of information are available for many campgrounds online at the many available online camping guides. Many campgrounds have brochures and their own websites.

It is fun to just pack up and go, but sometimes reservations need to be well thought-out. Typically peak season includes late June into the beginning of September. Nationwide regions vary somewhat. Reservations are generally recommended during peak season and for holiday periods - especially for the more popular vacation destinations.

Season variances are also evident nationwide. Again, typically Late June and through Labor Day are most popular vacation times, but in southern regions winter is often busier. Regardless of the area Campgrounds generally offer lower off season rates, although some services and recreational features may not be offered during those periods.

Another consideration is the availability of seasonal offerings in specific areas. If planning to travel in early or late season, it is recommended you inquire about your specific destination area. Many areas have lots to offer in the off season while others close up tight. A few areas gear very heavily toward Memorial Day to Labor Day only.

Some campgrounds do stay open all year enabling guests to enjoy sporting, sight-seeing, shopping and other activities, but in northern regions, most campgrounds close down during off peak periods. Between types of camping equipment and experiences, destinations, and seasonal offerings - America has it all!

Ways You Need to Care for Your Boat

by Cary Clack

The upkeep cost of a sailing boat can be kept exceptionally low if you are willing and able to do your own work. The most fragile part of your outfit is the suit of sails. How fragile it is depends upon the type of boat you have. If yours is a little general-purpose craft with a cat or knockabout rig, a good suit of sails should last you for 10 years, perhaps more. If, on the other hand, you are going in for parachute spinnakers, masthead-high Genoas, or even the regular sails in their light form, you may find the life of a suit of sails is not over a season or two before they have to be recut or repaired.

Don't forget to download Indocquent's free social bookmark utility at http://www.indocquent.com/social_bookmark/social_bookmark_landingpage.html.

The most important rule of all is that sails must be perfectly dry before they are stowed. Dampness causes mildew and rot. Need it be said that stowed sails should always be covered? Light sails that are not left on the boat should be well dried and then stowed in canvas bags. Rats and mice abound around the waterfront and no better nest has ever been found for a mouse family than a bagged sail.

There seems to be but one easy way to avoid damage by the gray beasties. That is to bag the sail and hang the bag from a rafter on a length of fine copper wire. Even then, the bag should hang far enough from anything else to obviate the chance of a rodent making a flying leap. Mice can climb ropes and twine, but a smooth, fine wire licks that method of approach.

Hull upkeep during the season should be limited to painting and varnishing as required. In the case of a racing boat, she may have to be hauled several times during the season to smooth up her bottom and apply a new coat of racing composition. Many racing owners haul small sailboats out of water whenever they are not being sailed. The idea is to keep them from soaking up a few extra pounds of water. Such fussiness is silly unless your only aim in having a boat is to race her.

The big jobs of maintenance are supposed to face you in the spring. That idea is crackpot, for fully half the annual overhaul can be done during the late fall and winter with the result that you'll get overboard weeks ahead of the others who, like the Capistrano swallows, never show up at the boatyard until a specific spring day. If you lay your boat up properly, there will be little to do when the weather turns balmy again.

Unless you live in some section where there is no winter, you must haul in the fall. Strip the boat of everything movable. The sails and all running rigging should be dried, cleaned, and stowed in a damp-free, mouse-free place. Take out the mast if possible and have it stowed in a shed where it can be supported horizontally at frequent enough intervals so it cannot go out of shape. If the mast must stay in the boat, you may be up against it to remove the halyards.

One stunt, if you can make a neat long splice, is to substitute some old line for the rigging aloft. If the boat is big enough and has a good stout spar, you may have a gantline. This is a heavy line rigged through a substantial block at the masthead. Its object is to provide a means by which you can be hoisted up the spar in a boatswain s chair.

You can use the rig for reeving off all rigging, inspecting and oiling upper blocks, and varnishing the mast. Don't monkey around with this sort of thing unless you are sure the mast, the gantline block, and the gantline itself will hold your weight.

These are some of the jobs you need to complete to really care for your boat. If you do these carefully, you will be rewarded by a really sound boat which will last a lifetime.

How to Protect Your Boat for a Hurricane

by Cary Clack

Every marina has different rules for what must be done by boat owners in the face of an approaching hurricane. In the wake of Katrina and Wilma, states are beginning to pass laws requiring boat owners to prepare their boats in certain ways. In light of all this information, some of it conflicting, what are the most important things a boat owner must know to protect themselves and their boat during a hurricane?

There are two basic rules that most experts agree offer the most important advice. First, plan ahead for what you will do when a hurricane approaches. That means checking your contract with your marina to see what they require and checking with your state for any additional regulations. You should also check with your boat insurance company to see if they have regulations that may affect your coverage. Conduct a dry run during the off-season to be sure you fully understand how much time is necessary to move or prepare your boat.

Second, under no circumstances is it safe to attempt to ride out a hurricane in your boat. There is a persistent myth that being on a boat in open water is safer than being on land during a hurricane, but the facts do not bear it out. Hurricane winds and tides can carry boats far inland or even sink them. Your boat is not worth risking your life.

Moving your boat is always the best way to prevent damage if at all possible. However, this requires arranging for inland storage space well ahead of time. Also, many boat owners are not aware that drawbridges are often locked down before a hurricane to facilitate the evacuation of people from low-lying areas. This increases the importance of moving your boat as soon as a hurricane watch is issued for your area.

Some areas have flotilla plans in place in order to move the maximum number of boats in the shortest time. Your local emergency management office will issue flotilla information in advance of a hurricane. If you are planning on joining a flotilla, be sure that your boat is properly maintained and fueled.

If moving your boat is not a possibility there are some simple things you can do to minimize damage. Remove all portable items from your boat such as electronics, antennas, dinghies, sun shades, oars or any other item that may blow around and cause damage. Be sure that any remaining items are securely lashed down. Obtain rope and other supplies to secure your boat well in advance as these items may be in short supply before a storm.

Bluetooth devices for motorbike owners

by Keith Barrett

An increasing number of motorcycle owners are using bluetooth technology to add to their riding experience. What is it that bluetooth technology issues that is starting to prove so popular?

Bluetooth technology was originally created as a way of allowing various hardware devices to communicate with each other, without the need for wires or cabling. This is what you may well have heard referred to as wireless communications.

This particular type of technology only works over fairly short distances. It's typically used to allow communication between a PC or laptop computer and a mobile phone, or from one mobile phone to another.

So you may be wondering how this could possibly help motorcycle owners?

The answer is that it can also be used to connect a mobile phone to a headset. That connection is, of course, completely wireless.

With the headset being composed of a microphone and headphones, the technology can effectively be used to relay the mobile phone signal to the headset.

This then opens up the possibility of motorcycle riders being able to have a hands free telephone conversation with other motorbike owners, or indeed with anyone who has access to a telephone.

Suddenly the world of global communications has been opened up, in much the same way that hands free mobile phones have enabled car drivers to communicate more easily in recent years.

You might wonder whether these devices are expensive. In fact, the prices have been dropping in recent months, with new headsets appearing on the market.

Many headsets can be attached to your existing motorcycle helmet, meaning that costs can be kept low.

Bluetooth motorcycle helmets open up a new world of possibilities.

Improve The Reach Of Your GPS Devices With The Use of Antennae And Mounts

by Cindy Heller

GPS antennas are an important part of any and all wireless systems. The GPS antenna works by combining a planar antenna and a frequency converter, which converts the high-frequency phase-modulated spread spectrum signal of the GPS system to an intermediate frequency. Nowadays, you can find many different types and brands of GPS antenna available in the market. You can select the one that is most suitable for your own personal or business needs. You can look up the details on the Internet of the various models available and select one that fits your needs and your budget.
Some of the key reasons to consider getting a GPS antenna include:

1) For use in a car or any other vehicle where the GPS device cannot or will not be placed near a window

2) For use when trekking or hiking in challenging geographical locations like jungles or canyons

3) For use in highly built-up areas like urban city centers

4) For use in any place where the GPS device does not have good line of sight to the sky

5) For use in a vehicle in motion to minimize temporary signal loss

6) For enhancing the best possible GPS signal accuracy by having a lock on the most number of GPS satellites

In fact, specific to piloting here a number of advantages in using the GPS antenna:

1) Reduces flight time

With a GPS antenna, it is possible for a pilot to reduce the time spent on aircraft turning from around five minutes to as low as one minute.

2) Increase efficiency

As the antenna is constantly maintaining a constant phase lock with GPS stations, no flight time is wasted while waiting to reacquire the lock on lost GPS signals. In addition, it also reduces the overall flight costs due to the reduction in turning time. Without a doubt, a GPS antenna helps to increase efficiency.

3) Minimum investment required

Since the technology is based on commercially available components, only a minimal investment is required. A low-cost and stabilized GPS antenna can be added to any existing vehicle or aircraft.

Generally, a GPS antenna can handle many different types of situations regardless of the outside environment as the antennas are designed mainly for stationary applications. The GPS antenna is a high-quality solution for adding GPS RF signals to marine GPS navigation systems. One particular model of GPS antenna is the Bullet III which is an active antenna with 35-dB preamp and dual band pass filter.

In fact, this brand has been in use for many years as it has proven its strength, durability and reliability. However, regardless of which brand of GPS antenna system you choose to purchase, all that matters is that you does what you need it to do at the right price and with the expected levels of reliability and durability.

Get The Correct GPS Mount To Secure Your GPS Device

It is important to get the proper GPS mount in order to secure your GPS device so that it is less likely to get damaged. In fact, it is quite tough to find the perfect GPS mount subsequent to your initial purchase of the GPS device, since your retailer may longer hold inventory of GPS mounts suited to older GPS equipment. You may need to spend some time and effort trawling through the Internet's various auction sites to find a GPS mount for an older device. For this particular reason alone, after you have decided on the GPS device you plan to buy, you should also consider buying the GPS mount at the same time since your retailer might be able to recommend one that fits your device and its intended use.

Get as much research regarding GPS mounts done on the Internet. Many GPS device manufacturers may suggest suitable GPS mounts in their online literature describing the devices' features and functions. There is a wide variety of GPS mounts designed for various purposes. For those who are not familiar with their GPS devices, some mistakes may be made in the process of purchasing GPS mounts.

Some examples of different mounts available include:

1) Aviation mounts

This type of mount gives the pilot an option of positioning the mount over or under the yoke depending on their requirements. Some pilots may even bring along their own portable GPS mount and fix it to an area where they prefer.

2) Marine mounts

Marine GPS mounts are generally used by boaters to fix it onto their marine craft so that they are able to use the GPS device with ease. Like aviation units, most of the marine units are easily removable for safe-keeping and convenience.

3) Laptop mounts

There are people who use laptop GPS mounts for fleet vehicles. Therefore the dealer of the GPS mount has to ensure that the mount has the same specifications to fit all the vehicles in the fleet.

The Dolphin 25 Fisher plans are ready

The Dolphin 25 Fisher has finally been finished after a couple of up and down years in its production! Basically it was constructed in between frenetic bouts of work, overseas trips, cruising the Whitsundays, illness and several location moves! But finally it’s ready!

However, one could possible conceive it as delayed pleasure, I suppose!

The D25 as it’s known was originally designed to be one of the largest, if not the largest stitch and glue project boat in Australia. ( whether or not that is actually true I know not until someone else claims differently!)

The idea came about when I had completed a Dolphin 19 Yawl and got to thinking,

“ There’s not an earthly reason why you couldn’t continue to create frameless stitch and glue boats as big as you want to? Why doesn’t anyone else do it?”

As far as I am concerned that question still hasn’t been answered and next year’s project will be an extension of the D25 into a proper grown up 35 foot stitch and glue frameless boat that could either be made as either a yacht or a power boat until late into the construction. It will have optional swing keel or bilge keels or if power only a long straight keel.

Some of the readers of this magazine are aware that I built the ‘Nicky J Miller” as a frameless yacht but she was actually built out of strip planking. (visit the site listed in the resource box below and follow the links to “The Nicky J).” She has seen ( and survived! ) some fearful seas and has performed faultlessly over the last six years. So any sceptics should rest assured that it isn’t just a ‘flash in the pan!” The ongoing wonders of epoxy!

However, I digress, back to the D25. Several design changes were made during the initial construction. The boat was turning out to be much larger than I had perceived it in my mind’s eye and I realised that we could get the boat strong enough for a really big outboard if people wanted one, if we made a few changes to the pod and the transom.

In fact the D25 is fitted with a 90 h.p. Yamaha outboard and It can take any thing up to a 120 hp motor. The pod has a large amount of positive buoyancy and keeps the stern up nicely giving a few

benefits along the way.

These include, heaps of room inside, clear space out on deck for fishing diving gear and passengers. The outboard is quieter of course, being so far aft and the pod’s buoyancy helps the boat stay level when a big handful of power is applied and, more importantly she rides the big stern wave nicely when power is reduced suddenly.

Another exciting innovation with the D25 is that she is absolutely stuffed with around two and a half ‘flotation’ tonnes of the amazing new Thermotec buoyancy foam. Considering that the boat itself only weighs around a tonne, dare I think it, let alone say it, that the D25 that I have built is unsinkable…well, I’ll let you draw your own conclusions!

The Thermotec foam is the latest in hi-tech buoyancy foam and it is a boatbuilder’s and surveyor’s dream come true! It is so easy to install, it’s not true. My foam came in two metre by one metre by 15 centimetre black sheets but it comes in evry conceivable shape, square and round.

I simply cut it up with a sharp knife and squeezed it into place and glued it with builder’s glue! You cannot believe how simple that is. The technology is the brainchild of Theremotec the people that bought us the pool noodles except this foam is high density especially for positive flotation.. The buoyancy factor for the foam is 910kg buoyancy per cubic metre. Therefore one sheet 50mm x 1000mm x 2000mm would have a buoyancy factor of 91kg

No more brainwhirling calculations, two part mixing or building special compartments or sticky mixing, measuring and pouring and running away from the fumes! Just slice and glue!

This great foam has the honour of being accepted as suitable for the first commercial registration and a Lewis ski-boat has the honour of being the first Australian boat to be registered commercially using this foam. The ski-boat underwent very rigorous swamp tests, being totally flooded and stayed level and floating with six large adult men standing upright in it !

The added bonus is that this foam is closed cell, fuel proof, chemical proof and fire retardant…doesn’t get much better than that!

When I saw the photos of their test I decided on the spot to do the extra work to accommodate the foam and although the boat was delayed it has been very much worth it for peace of mind.

The D25 has been designed for the very maximum utilisation for divers and fishermen especially. The huge rear deck allows up to six fishermen to have room to fish a’plenty. The lowered transom allows the fish to be landed and dealt with on the rear platform that covers the pod.

The cabin allows a large double bed or twin singles to be chosen and can be changed on the spot. There is a special station outside for cooking and contains a portable camping gas stove alleviating the need for the dreaded gas certificate and a sink. Under this is storage a’plenty and the same goes for inside where there is a large cupboard space, room for a porta –potty or permanent sea toilet inside a shower compartment. This boat is easily live aboard for a couple for weeks on end.. One customer who has purchased the plans intends to live on his permanently, his own dream come true, fishing and cruising for life! Incidentally there is six foot two inches standing headroom in the cabin.

CONSTRUCTION

The basic construction is from epoxy composite ply, epoxy resin and cotech 450 gram woven cloth. When the ply sheets are presoaked before glassing the longevity is remarkable. A D25 built from this construction can expect to be around in twenty years id maintained as should be, as should any boat built this way, for that matter.

The boat has been like all Dolphins that have preceded it, to be built from the simplest of plans that have completely dispensed with lofting !

Lofting is the bane of all boatbuilders and after one has fought with billowing paper plans that flap, rip, tear and soak plus driving you batty, the simply ‘Easy-build’ process is a joy to use. An X/Y graph is drawn onto one side of the floor and hull sides treated plywood, using a felt tip marker, dots made where the given dimensions on the plans intersect and then using a bendy batten the dots are joined up and the shapes of the floor and sides are done!

All that remains is to cut ‘em out using a jig saw.

When that side is done you simply lay those shapes over the second side, draw the shape and then cut out again! So quick!

One great thing is that you can pre-soak, glass and fair the sides and floors before construction saving a huge and difficult uphill job of fairing when God and gravity isn’t on your side!..the time savings are significant and the whole hull and floors should only only take about a week before fitting them together.

As to the cost overall it is really quite inexpensive compared to a ‘shop bought’. If labour is NOT taken into account ( if you are doing it yourself, that is!) and NO rented premises are used and the price of the motor is NOT included it should be possible to build the basic boat for around six thousand dollars. For a 25 foot by nine foot six beam boat that is not dear at all ( actually with the pod it is 27feet six inches L.O.A.)….Compare the price of ANY 25 footer new or secondhand, you wont get near it . In fact there is a tidy profit to be made building a D25 if you so wish.

However, if it is to be a commercial venture I am willing to grant a licence for any interested parties should that be the case…contact details below!

The plans are available on CD rom ( you get the plans printed out at your local copy shop and the are two sheets of AO size paper ( about a metre square each) and that’s all you need . The full set of instructions book consisting seventy pages can be printed out as desired but isn’t necessary. AS a bonus over 200 colour photographs of the D25 build are included on the CD showing every stage of construction from start to finish and the price??

Well originally, I had envisaged a tag of around three hundred dollars for the plans ( I even quoted a few enquirers, remember?? ) but after all is said and done I have always been proud of bringing my boat plans to the readers of AABB very cheaply ( a great mag, eh?) so I am selling them initially for FIFTY FIVE DOLLARS ONLY !! as an introductory offer. You get a CD with full instructions ( seventy five pages) and a complete range of build photos, over 200 in all…..A bargain? You bet!

I’m not really sure how long I will keep them at this price so go to the site and there will be a free download study plan and more info there, just follow the links.
