Making yourself heard from a motorbike

We may think about motorcycle owners as being something of an individual breed, but sometimes riders like to communicate with others while riding their bikes. Bluetooth technology is helping to facilitate such forms of communications.

The big problems with having a conversation on the back of a motorcycle is caused by the noise that the rider is surrounded by.

The most obvious source of noise usually comes from the engine. Being located closer to the engine than car drivers, motorcycle riders often enjoy the thrill of being close to the roar of an engine.

Another source of noise will come from the speed that these machines are travelling at, plus disturbance caused by weather conditions. The latter are particularly obvious in the UK of course!

Getting around the problem that this loud environment causes has not seemed easy. The solution has come from a source that many might not think would be naturally associated with bikes and bikers.

That solution is relying on something that is known as bluetooth technology. This is technology that was originally developed in order to allow hardware devices to communicate with each other.

You may be asking why that was so special. The answer is that this technology facilitates such communication without needing cables or wires. It is what is known to many as wireless communications.

Operating over short distances, the technology has largely been used by computers and mobile phones. So how does this relate to motorbikes?

The answer is that people on the back of a bike can now wear special headsets that have integrated bluetooth technology. This technology enables a rider and passenger, for instance, to hold a conversation despite the surrounding engine and road noise.

A relatively simple solution but one that would not have been possible but for the development of bluetooth technology and applications.
